My class website is www.mslaplante.weebly.com. Classroom notices will be sent home as well as posted on the website. The site is a work in progress and will be updated frequently to showcase things going on in the classroom and provide important information for families. You can use the website to view spelling words, weekly homework assignments, educational websites, book club information, etc.
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL Students eating breakfast at school will enter the cafeteria through the doors at the back of the school. Arrival time for students eating breakfast is 8:25. If your child will not be eating breakfast at school, he/she will be allowed to enter the building at 8:35. Instruction begins promptly at 8:45. Please make every effort to have your child at school on time.
Dismissal is at 2:45. Second grade students will exit the building through the front doors. Teachers and students will wait under the awning. Anyone picking up a student should wait in the driveway. Designated areas will be labeled by classroom. Please wait for your child at the pole marked for Room 2. If your child will be walking home without an adult, a note must be sent, or your child will not be allowed to walk alone.
Your child will only be released to individuals listed on the emergency form! Please send me a note any time your child will be picked up by someone different. Also, if your child rides the bus, please send me a note on days when your child will not be riding the bus home. If I have not received a note, I cannot change the way I dismiss a child.
EMERGENCY FORMS Please complete and return these forms as soon as possible! Please be sure to update these forms with the names and phone numbers of all people who are allowed to pick up your child. During the year, please provide me with updated information (i.e. change in address or phone number) to add to your child’s emergency form.
SNACKS/LUNCH We will have a short snack time each morning. Please provide a healthy snack and small drink for your child. Please do not send candy, gum, or soda. Water bottles are allowed in class. Due to food allergies, children will not be allowed to share or exchange snacks.
HOMEWORK Homework will be given Monday through Thursday. For the first trimester, homework will include a math and spelling assignment. As the year progresses, and challenges increase, the homework assignments may change. I have provided each child with a homework folder. In addition to homework assignments, any school or classroom notices will be placed in this folder. Please be sure to check your child’s homework folder daily. If you need to send me a note, please place it in your child’s homework folder. A list of homework assignments and spelling words will be posted on my website each week.
COMMUNICATION All student work will be sent home on Friday. Every Friday your child will bring home a manila envelope containing his/her completed class work. The work is yours to keep. Attached to the envelope will be a weekly progress reports. Envelopes should be signed and returned each week. In addition to notes sent home, I will post classroom updates on my website. If possible, please check the website often. I am always happy to communicate with families. If you ever have questions or concerns, please contact me at the school, send a note, or send and email. I will get back to you as quickly as possible.
DONATIONS Any classroom donations are welcome. We can always use boxes of tissues, hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes/sprays for the tables, pencils, erasers, etc. We could also use prizes for our weekly raffle. Prizes should be small items such as Burger King toys or things purchased at the Dollar Store.
VOLUNTEERS All parents are welcome to volunteer in the classroom. In order to be a classroom volunteer or to chaperone field trips you must have a BCI check. Once your BCI check is cleared through the office, please let me know which days and times you are available.
